Okay, this seems for me like (former) KDE Bug #18579. So I give you the
same answer:

<QUOTE>
Having fallen into the same trap, I have may be a solution.

The problem is that the user that cannot start KWord has a local copy of
the (old) file "kword.desktop" in his .kde directory tree. So after the new
"kword.desktop" file is installed on the system, the user's old local copy
still takes precedence and this copy is really missing the
"X-KDE-NativeMimeType" entry. Therefore the error!

The local copy is in the directory: ~/.kde/share/applnk/Office

Deleting (or just renaming for testing) the old local copy is sufficient.
(May be a restart of KDE is needed, I have done this procedure without KDE
running!)

NOTE: be careful that the local copy could have contained additional
information added by the user.
</QUOTE>

Note 2: The wrong desktop file could be also named "kword.kdelnk"
Note 3: It was never confirmed that this way of doing help anybody but me,
as bug #18579 was closed in another way.
