You should also try mailing this question to kde@kde.org or kde-user@kde.org
as it is a user question, I am sure David can help but I would rather see
he is coding then solve user problems  *grin*.

But to stay on the helpful side; go to the general setting of konqueror and
enable javascript, no you don't need JRE for javascript, The JRE is only 
needed for java applets support in konqueror.
