Why doesn't the frame know which frameset it belongs to?

i.e. how do I find out what type of frame I am looking at. If I have a 
frame I can not ask what type it is, that is stored in the frameset, I can 
also not ask which frameset it belongs to. 

Do I really have to ask the doc all the framesets and check which frameset
knows about my little frame to find out if I am looking at a FD_TEXT, a FD_FORMULA
or whatever frame?
