I'm sorry I missed your message. I normally follow the koffice mailing lists
assiduously, but must have missed this somehow.

OK. This message means that the OLE reader code which does the OLE-level
parsing of the document before passing it to the actual translation code did
not correctly extract one of the key data structures. I have seen this error
before, but only from Word 95 documents.

If your document is not private, or you can make a non-private version that
shows this problem, I'd be most interested to have a look at it. Since I am
travelling this week, and also Werner is the real expert on the OLE code,
could you send me and Werner the document?

The other thing I could suggest is that you ensure that the document is
"full-saved" (i.e. disable "fast-save", and then write the file out). That
might just bypass the bug (this is a wild guess!).

Anyway, FWIW, the currently checked-in code SHOULD be able to read the
contents of a full-saved Word 97 docment. It should be able to distinguish:

1. normal text
2. headings
3. lists (including multi-level), though the "numbering" of alphabetic list
items starts from "Q" instead of "A".

However, the presence of tables confuses my code (this is my top priority
right now, hence the floating-frame stuff mentioned in this list recently).

Finally, note that I make no attempt at character formatting at present. I
have some plans in that area to implement difference-only coding of
paragraph formats. This will not only make saved documents much smaller, but
it make filters like mine much easier to write (and is the secret agenda
behind the version number stuff I added recently :-)).

I hope to make significant progress in the next 4-8 weeks. Famous last
words...thanks for your patience and interest.

    Shaheed
