Others reported it worked fine :((

Are you using the kde-1 wrapper scripts (i.e. the K menu, or
"kword.sh", "kspread.sh", ...)

Otherwise, you may be able to launch the app (say from command line
with the full path), but since kdeinit is not running, "save" crashes.
