Hello;

A quick note: I'm new to the list. I'll be
lurking most of the time but will occasionally
post questions and add uninformed commentary.

I'm interested in KOffice from a commercial
point of view. Clearly one of the barriers to
adoption of Linux et al is the lack of a
single, coherent office suite. I think that
at the moment KOffice shows the most promise
by far. Note that I specifically exclude
closed programs such as WordPerfect or
Applixware.

I can't program to save my life. I *do*
however have some questions:

1) What is the current state of filters?
How mature are they? For how many formats?

2) How easy is it to create new filters? How
does the filter system work?

3) How are you testing the filters for
effectiveness? Do you have specs that you
are working from? Do you have various levels
of "stress documents" to test the filters
under ambiguous, heavy formatting?

4) Using the Python scripting mechanism,
how difficult would it be for KOffice to
do batch filtering?
