with a silly question but is there an environment var
besides LD_LIBRARY_PATH that i must define before
trying to running one of the koffice components.

basically, it seems that ie kword is trying to access
file /usr/lib/.la which does not seem right ... maybe
libkword.la which is clearly in the default install
path ( /usr/local/kde/lib ) and a soft. link to it
from /usr/lib as well.

the output of any attempt to startup a component would
yeild the following

$> kword
DCOPClient: setup DCOP protocol. Major opcode = 2
kio (KMimeType): KServiceType::offers : servicetype
KOfficePart not found
ASSERT: "!entry.isEmpty()" in koApplication.cc (49)
KLibLoader: library=(null): No file names .la found in
paths.

a quick check to see what kde-type process are
running.
there are kwin, kinit : dcopserver, [kinit], kinit:
klauncher, kaudioserver, kdesktop, kio_file, kwrited

is there something silly that i am not seeing to get
this working?
any help would be appreciated.

ps if this is not the correct address for this type of
question, please redirect me to the proper place.

thanks,
--ges
