With a little bit of luck a version will be released somewhere in the 
beginning of next year, together with KDE 2.

At this moment, koffice is not at all finished (though if you get it
compiled it tends to work pretty OK).

If you are a real newbie on KDE/Koffice and compiling maybe the
kde-announce list would be more suitable. If Koffice is ready,
it will most certainly be announced!

If you are a newbie but would like to start hacking in _real_ code,
this list is for you, together with kde-devel etc...
