From koffice Tue Mar 30 09:34:00 1999 From: "SIMON Cle'ment (SQY)" Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 09:34:00 +0000 To: koffice Subject: If you need some French brain :-) X-MARC-Message: https://marc.info/?l=koffice&m=92516389028057 Hi there, No no... I'm not referring to our tasteless french cuisine... Anyway, a quick introduction... My name's Clement SIMON, 24 years old, and I'm french. I'm a computing science engineer at SEMA GROUP Telecom. I'm running Redhat Linux at home and I've downloaded KDE and about to download KOffice (or pieces of it anyway). Since I'm just a beginner, all I know (that could be of interest in this project) is C, C++, Perl and all your run-of-the-mill WWW stuff (HTML, Dynamic HTML, Javascript, CGI)... After taking the time to lurk around a little bit, I have to say that I'm impressed ! Seriously... And along with my full support, I'll offer you my (free) help, if you want it. :-) I'm afraid I've already got my hands full at work, so I can't be much help as a developer right now. In the meantime, I'll be glad to help you if you got some translation work to do. I speak english fluently (633 at TOEFL, several trips to UK, USA and Canada) and I've already performed some translation work. In 1997, I translated chapter 11 from "The Design and Implementation of 4.4BSD" from English to French. I wasn't supposed to do this, it was just to help someone (my brother, in fact) who was a little bit behind schedule... :-) If you'd like to know my motivation for helping you... Let's say that I generally oppose everything Micro$oft-ish (even if we use it at work...) and, if given the opportunity to use something else than MS Office, something better, that doesn't crash, that doesn't hog your 64 Megs of RAM, that doesn't yadda yadda... (I think you'll get my point)... If that opportunity presents itself, then I'll be glad to give a hand.... Furthermore, I'm also a strong advocate of free software, and for a free WWW in general. I know this is a lot of work for you all, and you'll need all the help you can get. People providing free software to the world should be considered as mankind benefactors. I know it's a lot of work... I know it can be ungrateful work, but I believe that, in the end, everybody gets his due. And what more ? Oh yeah... It can be fun too... What would be benevolous work if you didn't have fun now and then ? ;-) Ok, enough rambling... Contact me if you're interested... Sincerely, Clement PS : Alternatively, you can contact me at simoncl@club-internet.fr, which is my e-mail at home.
