I have almost exactly the same problem, except that I can start and use
kspread, while kword and kpresenter fails with the same message as you
described.

My setup: rh 5.2; qt 1.42 + qt-devel 1.42; kde 1.1 (support, libs, base &
selected apps); kdesupport-990215; kdelibs-19990302; mico-2.2.3; corba-19990302;
koffice-19990302; 

I used egcs 1.0.3a

Did anyone find the solution to this problem yet ?
