Summary: Only document styles are saved when no space left on
/tmp
Product: koffice
Version: unspecified
Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: koffice@kde.org
ReportedBy: johannes.simon@gmail.com
Version: 1.6.3 (using KDE 4.1.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
One time I forgot that I had only very few space left on my disk, but I updated
KDE nevertheless. When the update was done, there was no more disk space left.
I noticed that and removed a couple of large files, and thought everything's
fine now. But, for some reason, there was still no space left on /tmp. (It must
be a linux issue, but that is not really important right now)
Not being aware of that, I edited a rather important file in KSpread, and saved
it. It didn't complain about anything, but the next time I opened the document,
the contents were missing. More specifically, only the styles were saved, so
KSpread couldn't even open the document. I am very sure this has to do with no
more space being available on /tmp during the saving process.
I think there should be a generic solution in KOffice to tell the user that
space needs to be freed in whatever folder KOffice is trying to write data to.
Something like "Could not write data to temporary file directory (/tmp). Please
free at least x KBs and try again." would already be very helpful.
Though this happened in KOffice 1.6, I'm pretty sure this is a thing that
should go into 2.0.
