Date as a constant "variable" (e.g. when you put a date at the end of a document or in a table) could be entered/changed in such a way that it would pop up a small calendar widget/applet from which the user could select the date.

Similar usage can be seen e.g. in KMyMoney2 and many other KDE programs (only obvliously not for writing ODF files).

Just an idea.
