I see my Windows TT fonts in KWord 1.5.  Here are the instructions I use in Fedora. YMMV

Copy your fonts int /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts

Then add /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts to the catalogue list in /etc/X11/fs/config

Then do the following:
      % cd /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
      % ttmkfdir > fonts.scale
      % mkfontdir
      % chkfontpath -a /usr/share/fonts/ttfonts
      % /etc/init.d/xfs restart
