As Richard has the same problem on x86 as I have on AMD64 it seems to be 
spesific to SUSE packages

However, it is strange that I don't find any references to the issue when 
googling, especially as the problem has remained through a couple of Koffice 
upgrades (at least in my case).

There is a bug report about kpdf crashing when using koffice print preview in 
SUSE 10.0 RC 4 but I don't think it is the same issue.
