You may have a broken installation (e.g mismatched libraries or a bad build). 
It is very difficult to tell from your description.

You may get some more information from trying to start the application (e.g. 
kword) from the command line. That will almost always give you more 
information, and you might be able to resolve the problem (e.g. from a line 
that says "cannot find foo"  or "missing symbol bar" - you might be able to 
figure out what the problem is) or provide a full dump of whatever the output 
is - from that we might be able to help more.
