Aha, this qt-3.3.4-100 seems to be the problem. I can't figure out
where this came from as I thought my basic plumbing was strictly "out
of the box". After getting rid of it and installing qt-3.3.4-15.4 I
have a successful build! Thanks to those who replied.

After yum remove/install, I had to change my QTDIR from
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.4 to /usr/lib/qt-3.3 and ln -s /lib/libattr.la
/usr/lib. Then when compiling I still got errors about KLineEdit
undefined. However I worked around this by editing
koDocumentInfoAboutWidget.h to add the line

#include <kde/klineedit.h>

Probably just leftover crumbs from my former qt misconfiguration.
Looking forward to trying some Ruby plugins with the new kword :)
