Dear friends:
[Using Scientific Linux, based on RHEL4]
I have just downloaded the source code for Koffice. But before I install
it, I would appreciate some information.
Scientific Linux is a derivate of RHEL4. It recompiled RHEL4 from
source. In addition, unlike RHEL's stripped down version of KDE, it
give us the full-fledged version of KDE 3.3.1-3.10.
I was told by tech support at SL that installing Koffice might cause
some problems. I can see how this could be the case with installing
binaries. But what about installing from source code? Is there any way
this could cause problems to a linux OS? Any conflicts of any sort? Even
things like messing up the menus? Or does installing from source by its
nature produce a clean customized install that does not conflict with
one's system?
They say that because they don't want to do the tech support for things you
install from sources yourself ;)
But it should be fine, especially if you don't have koffice-from-binaries
installed already. Then there can be no conflicts.
