Wouldn't it be possible to create a compromise solution --
File/{Export,Import} would go, but File/{Save,Open} file selector dialog
box would get an additional checkbox "Make file default", which would be by
default checked. I really do not like the mess OOo makes me with default
documents (not having full File/Export -- only some files can be Exported
this way), but on the other hand it seems to me that special Export/Import
items in the File menu make it too crowded indeed.

What about this one?
