--template exists (but needs the full path to the template)
--variables doesn't exist ... I would suggest filing a wish on bugs.kde.org,
but that won't get it done any time soon anyway. Better would be if you could
add support for it :)
Another solution is to write a script that copies the template to a .kwd file and
sets the value of the custom variables inside it. Should be pretty easy with
unzip/perl/zip.
