Dear friends:

I also tried to "export" using /usr/local/kde as follows:

Dell:/home/sher/L-Files/Downloads/Tars/koffice-1.3# export
 KDEDIRS=/usr/local/ kde:/usr/lib/kde3

I REBOOTED. Again, Kword (and other Koffice applications) failed.
