greetings,

I was finally able to start koshell, kword and all the rest of koffice
1.3 without problems. Thanks a thousand to the list, and even more to
David Faure, who had the patience to walk me through the problem step
by step. It turns out that on the procedure to make KOffice 1.3 from
sources work on RH 9 is slightly different from David suggestions,
however. This is what I had to do:

in ~/.bashrc (Red Hat places base stuff as ls in /bin, so one can't
remove it from users' $PATH):

PATH=/usr/local/kde/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/marco/bin
export PATH

KDEDIRS=/usr/local/kde
export KDEDIRS

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/kde/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

both variables above were empty before

then:

	cd .kde/share/applnk-redhat/
	ln -s /usr/local/kde/share/applnk/Office/*desktop .

doing the linking in .kde/share/applnk didn't work for some reason.
Then I ran kbuildsycoca .

Ciao, and thanks again!

    Marco (Now finally able to ask questions about *using* KOffice
	   1.3...)

you do it. -- Gandhi
