Vailima,

Just check if your DMP printers are Epson 9 pin compatibles, and them 
try to change the driver you are using to EPSON FX, ou EPSON LX. 

You should experience some enhancement in speed, as probably the fancy 
resolutions printing that require two or more passes will be 
disabled.

By the way, I am using Mandrake 9.2, and the Canon s100 drivers that 
come just do not work. I set up the BJC 600 drivers, and it is 
printing faster than ever.
