When you type:
 zipinfo yourkwordfile.kwd

Does the listing shows "fat" or "unx" (in the third column)?

In KDE 3.1, kzip is still in FAT mode. But probably someone has added the Unix 
permission to kzip. For ZIP files, you need an extension in the header to 
store the Unix specific stuff. So the content of the first file is at a later 
position.

Yes, use zipinfo as witten above (you can also use zipinfo -v which list more)

Before adding a second group of entry, it would be good to know what is 
happening on the kzip side. (Perhaps David can tell us .)
