Please keep your "Grrrr" for yourself, I spent countless hours on adding
all that was needed for KOffice... Guess how KOffice text editing has all
those features?

The KDE file dialog is in KDE libs.

But koffice's libkotext provides WYSIWYG text editing, as well as many
other features which Qt doesn't offer (strikeout, background color, underline types,
language, shadow, lower/upper/smallcaps, hyphenation ; paragraph borders,
the 4 types of tabulators, the new linespacing possibilities, etc.)

The richtext engine in Qt is private anyway, we can't use it directly.

No.

We currently use the font and painting mechanism from Qt.
Only the text layouting engine is separate.
But this might change in the future (see long thread on koffice-devel)
