It is my believe that using dollar signs before a variable makes it 'stick' so 
copying does not alter it.
It seems wierd that cut _does_ alter those values as well.

You are right; and as I failed to understand the behavior both excel en OSs 
have I'm definitely not in the majority.
My worry was that since I found it counter intuitive that maybe the kspread 
crew would miss that one as well.
