I suppose that is one of the things that I should have mentioned.   I am 
running KDE 3.1(RC6).  I thought it might be a bug in the 3.1 branch.

I suspect a bug in kghostview - for me it shows some pages as blank,
so if you have only one page it might simply appear blank.
I guess a KDE_3_1_BRANCH kghostview fixes it...
If that's the case, please report a kghostview bug...
