Yes, I use cvs and yes, admin is a symlink since there was no admin after the initial checkout. I copied kde-common/admin and did 'cvs upd -A -r KOFFICE_1_2_BRANCH' et voilą, it worked. Remains the question, why admin wasn't checked out in first place. I can't see it on webcvs.kde.org either. I guess anybody checking out koffice the first time will run into the same problem.
