Yes. Recreate, rather than reload.

KURL url;
url.setPath( "/the/koffice/document.kwd" );
(void) new KRun( url );

This launches the associated program (in this case most probably kword),
for the given file.
If you already know the mimetype of the file (e.g. if it's really only about
kword documents, always), then use KRun::runURL( url, mimetype );
