Could you please try with koconverter how much time is used by the filter 
itself?

Syntax:
  koconverter text.txt kword.kwd

where text.txt is your text file and kword.kwd the file in which you want the 
output (The file names are not important but the extensions are.)


Another test that you could do is to import the text in AbiWord, save as an 
AbiWord file and load this file in KWord. Does KWord crashes too in that 
case?
