I strongly doubt this screwed up your KDE, it's a harmless warning from
kbuildsycoca. The reason it happens is a stale .desktop file, since
serialletter was renamed mailmerge. Simply remove
$KDEDIR/share/servicetypes/kwserialletter.desktop (I think it was called)
and this warning will disappear.

Cc'ing koffice@ in case anyone else had the same problem.
