As you do not tell how much novice you are, let us start from the bottom.

- You will need to know how to program in C++.
- You will need to learn how to use the QT library (Doing the tutorials could
be perhaps enough for starting.)

Then when you are ready to make filters, you should look at a filter similar
to the one you want. Try to understand what this filter does. When you have
understood what this filter does, you can copy it as a start of your filter.

When you program for filters, you will soon find out that having a good
documentation about the non-KOffice format is important.

If you do not mind to compile kdelibs/kdebase/KOffice at least every week,
you should use KDE CVS HEAD and not KDE 2.2.x/KOffice 1.1.x., as enough
things have changed between the two versions and because no new version of
KOffice 1.1.x will exist.

What I have told here is the *absolute* minimum to program for a filter. It
is not enough to program for the big applications like KWord. There you would
need more KDE knowledge from the start on. (For filters, you can learn it
progressively, starting with KOffice stuff.)

If you would tell which filter interests you, we could surely tell you which
filter(s) you should look at and even perhaps some readers of this mailing
list could be interested in helping you.

If I have misunderstood something or if you have questions, please just ask!

Have a nice day/evening/night!
