I think there was talk about adding an option to save files uncompressed for 
debugging purposes, but I don't know if it has been added.

However, all is not lost.

The .kwd file is simply a .tar.gz file with a different extension, so you can 
extract it with the standard unix tools.  You might need to add the .tar.gz 
extension to the filename first though.

The amount of compression gzip manages on XML files is amazing - one 
particular file I have which is 27K compressed is 466K uncompressed!
