The reason for that behavior is, that it avoids flickering of the content 
while you resize the window. In CVS KWord you can easily set the zoom factor 
in a way that the page fills the whole window and you won't see any grey 
border.

Hello,

This is an issue with kword, kpresenter, and maybe killustrator(i can't get the cvs of killustrator to load, so I'm not sure).  Anyway, I believe that when the window is maximized, the work area should centre itself on the screen.  I feel this just looks much nicer than having that large grey area off to the right.
