Hi Stephan:

 I included both of  the above JPEG's in a Kword doc. They print previewed 
and also reproduced on the hard copy.  I am using lprold with Koffice 1.1 
(kde 2.2.1) and Qt-2.3.1. I too have gs 5.50.
