First, should those instructions be updated to indicate that the build  
directory should not be within the source tree?  I know it will often,  
or even generally work, but there can be some subtle issues.  Also,  
while most of the time the install prefix will be /usr/ or /usr/local/,  
if you are masochistic enough to want to have both a distro standard  
and a git compiled version installed at the same time, you should still  
use an absolute path, not something like ../../install (which I did use  
for a while, until I figured out the strange things it was causing.)

Second, there have been several bugs and list messages asking for  
minimum version of the Distribution which is required.  I'm pretty sure  
we don't want to try to figure that out, much less for multiple  
distros, but it might help to mention it on the page, to avoid the  
questions.
