there was a kinda interesting post at

about the mail integration in StarOffice.

here is a rough translation to english:

"a simple question I've asked myself somedays ago: why won't deleted mails 
from kmail go into KDE's trashcan? Why has kmail it's own folder-view and 
doesn't use konq for that? Why is there an external mail-client at all, 
though only the folders [means: folder-view; note from translater] needed to 
be extended in a way, that they accept pop3: or imap4: instead of only files 
[note: he seems to have overseen kioslaves].
In staroffice, it behaves like this: create mail-account, create a shortcut 
to it on the desktop and it's treated like a directory, deleted mails go to 
the staroffice-trashcan, you can walk through the imap-mailfolders in the 
directory-treeview, as if it were ordinary directories. At least, you won't 
even recognize that you browse mails at the moment.
That's what I call Integration."

Note: that was not my posting, I just translated it ;-)

I have been pointed to a posting on this list where the merging of kmail and 
knode and the plans of creating a mailpart are discussed/announced, but maybe 
this posting could be interesting anyways
