Package: kmail
Version: 1.2.9 (using KDE 2.2.0 beta1)
Severity: normal
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.2.5-15
OS/Compiler notes:

My system, time was set way back in the past - kmail started quitting suddenly with \
messages like "kmail: Critical error: /home/paul/Mail/bugs has been modified by an \
external application while KMail was running." presumably because the files have \
dates in the future when kmail tries to update them (it also shows all the delete \
spam in an uncompacted file as being present again).

A possible solution to this problem is to check the last mod date on the file when \
you open it and if this hasn't changed when you write it not report this error.

BTW I'm pretty sure I lost mail due to this bug (the good news is that it was almost \
certainly spam).

BTW I really like kmail and have used it since 1.2 - many thanks for your hard work - \
Paul
