Probably your ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc file is readonly 
or owned by root.

Hence the file can't be written to your changes aren't 
saved.

This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with.
If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the
bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith.

talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration
somewhere.  Please contact me immediately.)

OS/Compiler notes: kernel 2.4.2 i686

kmail does not remember the position
of the separation between the upper
frame (with the mail list) and the
lower frame (displaying the emails
themselves). Every time I launch
kmail I have to reposition the
separation, else I can read only
five lines at a time on every mail !!
