Well, it's what everybody else does. I still don't think it looks good. This 
was bugging me, too. I found the place in the source once, changed and 
recompiled it but unfortunately I don't have the patched source anymore so 
that I'd have to find the place again. I still have the patched binary, 
though, it's 1.6 MB and I can send it to you if you want. It'sc ompiled from 
KDE 2.1.1 sources.

Oh, and I don't see any chance that the core developers will listen to you on 
this issue ...
