Subject: kmail header length restriction
From: jellicle@inch.com

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.1.0 Beta 2
Severity: normal
Installed from: Debian Packages
Compiler: gcc 2.95
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

kmail apparently has a maximum acceptable length for email headers, around 507-508 \
characters. When email headers exceed that length, kmail seems to decide that header \
processing is over, and it truncates the current header and pushes any other headers \
into the body of the message when it stores the email. The "References: " header can \
exceed 500 characters fairly often in back-and-forth exchanges. I can provide \
examples of headers mangled by this upon request.
