not that i'm a license expert or anything, but i don't think the issue was as 
much that is wasn't GPL'd but that the license it now bears is rather 
restrictive in that it gives the "founding author" the right to change 
retroactively the license conditions on their whim ... if it was just BSD or 
Artistic license then i don't think there would be a problem...
