For the sake of completeness:

I've seen the symptoms that you described, but it turned out to be an
error in the sed command line:

sed 's/Subject:(.*)\[Emu10k1-devel\]\(.*\)/Subject: \1\2/'

Do you see the perl programmers gotcha?
Maybe it's the same with your line?
