Looking at the screenshot I remember this (I use SuSE 7.1). IIRC, I 
solved this by checking the option "Use unicode fonts for messages" and 
choosing "adobe-helvetica" as font for the message viewer in 
"Erscheinungsbild"->"Schriftarten". Playing around a bit with the 
different font options should help. If you can come up with a solution 
it would be nice if you would tell us what you did.
