Hi! Bad news, folks. German c't magazine tested 16 mail clients for the three platforms Win/Mac/Linux and KMail (1.2 oof KDE 2.1) has gotten the worst marks. Category\Mark KMail Evolution OE Eud.(L) NSMail TheBat! User Comfort o + + ++ + + POP functions - - ++ o - ++ IMAP Functions n/a o - o + -- Misc. Functions - - o +(-) o + Security - -- o ++ o ++ ++ = very good ; + = good ; o = ok ; - = bad ; -- = very bad The biggest drawbacks - according to c't - are: User Comfort/ Misc. Functions: Comparing it with the others, I think that this should be a o/+. It's clear that the testers didn't find some of the important functionality (but that is sometimes as bad as not having it at all, esp. when the product claims to be easy to use): Completion form the addressbook and so on. Template support. POP functions: You cannot download headers and only load the body on read (like e.g. knode does with news articles). You cannot prohibit d/l of certain mails (e.g. exceeding a certain size). IMAP functions: Even the dev version doesn't have: Search on the server. Security: (the most important aspect - the worse that KMail has gotten only "-") Cannot stop loading elements of HTML mails from the net (images, "web-bugs"). Reject Return Receipts. SMTP-AUTH/SMTP-after-POP/APOP sending and receiving via SSL S/MIME I've written to them explaining that they have left out some of the functionality and asking if they can correct the summary table in their next issue.
