Subject: kmail crashes whole X-Server caused by huge address list
From: soletan@toxa.de

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.1.0
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 2.95 or similar
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: SuSE Linux 7.1 Professional Edition

Hi,

I've got some stupid mail having 4k (4950 bytes) of CC-addresses and a very small \
mail body with ads.

Everything was fine so far. But then I tried to answer to everyone by telling them \
something about least protection of personal data, well my intentions aren't \
important here :) ...

kmail crashed the whole X-Server by clicking the answer-to-all-icon at the toolbar.

So I logged in again and started kmail. It immediately crashed again the X-Server. \
I've tried to powercycle my system (yes, I can't really believe in linux's \
pre-emptivity and memory protection) w/o any effects.

I've backed up my Mail-folder and removed the mail I got, because I realised, that it \
is prompted on startup. After this kmail started fine.

Then I took out of my backup the list of addresses into clipboard. After opening a \
new mail composer window I copied the list from clipboard to BCC-Line and kmail \
crashed X again.

Now every time I start kmail it shows a window that looks like a mail composer window \
just a monitor frame long before it crashes X.

It terribly looks like some buffer overflow and some misconfiguration that mades \
kmail starting with a composer window.

I need help as soon as possible, at least I please you to write me which config file \
I should remove or modify to make kmail starting normally again.

Thanks,
Thomas Urban
