Package: kmail
Version: 1.2 (using KDE 2.1.1 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: Linux-Mandrake 7.2 (MandrakeFreq)
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 19991030 (prerelease)
OS: Linux 2.2.17-21mdk i686
OS/Compiler notes:

With thousands of emails coming in every day, it is getting impossible to manage life \
with Kmail. I have 50+ industry newsletters that need 25 filters just to go to one \
industry nuggets folder. I have 100+ filters to make sure client emails make it to \
the right place. It gets worse, but you get the idea.

The best, most direct and easiest solution I can think of to implement a more \
convenient automated organization process is this:

1. Filters stay the same.
2. Each folder can be provided a list of senders, separated by commas or whatever \
interface you want to build. Something like right-click on a message, and in the \
context sensitive help you see a "Folder for this Sender" option which trees off a \
folder view for my selection. 3. When no filters apply to an incoming message, the \
sender is checked against all folder lists. If the sender is associated with any of \
the folders then the email is placed into that "default" folder.

99% of my problems with Kmail's filters can be solved with this procedure. Another \
solution is:

1. Allow matching criteria to be separated by commas in the filter setup. Like \
"Sender" "Contains" "sean@,mike@blah.com,joe@blah.com". BTW, can I do this now? I \
don't see any indication that it does in the docs.

Kmail is slowly evolving into a nice package. Thanks for putting in such a huge \
amount of effort to improve it! I must admit however, that it seems to need more \
attention since email is the "killer app" and without an email client that matches \
the email functionality of Outlook I don't think KDE will get the attention it \
deserves.
