I use a current cvs version of KMail on a SuSE Linux 7.1 (kernel 2.2.18, qt 2.3.0) and can't reproduce your crash. Maybe the KDE2.2alpha1 binary build for SuSE 7.1 is broken. If you want to use a current version of KMail you should try to compile a current cvs version. If you do so you also need current versions of at least kdesupport and kdelibs. Maybe the KDE2.2alpha1 versions of these packages are sufficiently up to date so that you only need to compile kdenetwork.
