'SMTP Error'

The following SMTP error is received at each attempt to send ANY mail:

    Kmail Warning

    Sending failed:
    a SMTP error occurred
    command: RCPT
    Response: 553 <"rosehsmith@bellsouth.net"@mail.clt.bellsouth.net >>... Unbalanced '>'
    Return code: 553

I've deleted the email I received in which the above was the return address.
