I am rewriting mail sending to make smtp sending non-blocking. I'm not using 
the smtp slave at the moment, but I'm not against the smtp slave being used 
eventually as long as there is some advantage to doing so.

It would be best to base your work on my non-blocking sending patches that 
I've sent to this list many times.
