Does it still crash on startup, if you remove the file ~/dead.letter ?
Please backup the file before deleting, for the case it is useful to 
reproduce the crash.

On the other hand the backtrace looks like a conflict with an old version of 
kdesupport/mimelib, possibly from KDE 1.1.2. Is KDE 2 properly installed in a 
different directory and are the environment variables set correctely?
